ARGENTINA!!

i stole this picture from MSN

Of course it would be awesome if South Korea took the World Cup, but I'm really hoping for Argentina. I made the big trek to Joseph and Graham's place (all the way down 1 flight of stairs!!) for the game last night...I was hoping for Costa Rica and it started off looking really good for them. Then I proceeded to fall asleep on their couch and when I woke up Germany had beaten them 4-2. Because of the time change all the games are on SUPER late...I think it's going to be a very tired month here in Korea!!

First of all, let me just say that it may be a good idea if my mom, dad, and aunt debbie don't read the rest of this post.

So...I've been thinking that I could really use a few days away from the city and the smog and the crowds. My summer break is coming up, so I've been looking at a few places to visit that aren't too far away (my break isn't very long). Finally, I reached a decision and today I sent in a ridiculous amount of money and paperwork to go to.....NORTH KOREA!!! Woo Hoo!!! I can't wait to travel again!! I wonder what their passport stamp looks like??

FRIDAY FEAST

Appetizer
About how much money did you spend on gas this week?

NONE!! HA HA...Take that, evil oil companies!!! I love not having to drive over here!! I love that I can walk to just about anywhere I need to go!! I did drop about 4000 won (a whopping $4.50 U.S.) on the subway this week, but that's clearly nothing compared to what I spent in the states on gas.

Soup
What is your favortite brand of toilet paper?

As long as it's there when I need it I'm not really too picky.

Salad
When was the last time you discovered something that you thought was pure genius?

Everytime I look in the mirror!! Hee Hee.

Main Course
What is the least amount of sleep you can get by on per night?

I can function on 3 - 4, but I wouldn't recommend getting anywhere near me, especially if you're the overly cheerful type. I'm a bit of a bitch when I'm tired. I prefer 6 - 7 hours a night, with an occasional 'crashfest' where I sleep for an ungodly amount of time.

Dessert
June is a popular month for weddings. Do you know anyone who is getting married this month?

Nope. 2 last month, but none in June.

My Brother's A Wanker

So I'm catching up on some emails, throwing some random crap up on my blog, blah, blah, blah and I have the TV on in the background. OCN is showing that racing movie with the undercover cop who chases around Vin Diesel...anyway, I overheard the part where he tells Vin Diesel he's taking his little sister on a date.

Vin Diesel replies, "If you break her heart I'll break your neck!!"

And I think, "Hmmm...I wonder if Brownie would ever defend me like that???"

HAAAAAA HAAAAAA haaaaaa HAAAAA!!!! HaHaHa (pause to wipe away tears of laughter) HAAAAAAAAAAAhaaaaaaahaaaa!!!!

5 Things...

I often steal lists from DNA's blog, but I figure it's OK because she usually steals them from someone/somewhere else. Plus, we're family. Anyway, here's some more stuff you've been dying to know about me...

5 Items in my Fridge:

In an effort to bring more culture into your sorry lives, I decided to make you a still life photo of my fridge contents. Minus the kimchi.

The beer is now gone, so feel free to imagine a big block of tofu in it's place.

5 Items in my Closet:

There's no way y'all are seeing a picture of that mess! There's way more than 5 items crammed into that tiny space, but taking up the most room are my hiking boots, my tent, my enormous duffel bag, a bunch of sweaters, and my most fabulous LVH3 sweatshirt.

5 Items in my Car:
Do the 5 dead hookers in the trunk count???? Just kidding. There's only 4. Seriously.

Sometimes Rene Russo is so hot, and other times she looks like a drowned cat. What's up with that? Can she not afford to work with a decent make up artist?!?!? It's really annoying the shit out of me! Everytime she comes on screen it totally disrupts my focus on the show because all I can think about is how awful she looks. And I can't simply change the channel because there's nothing else in English to watch.

Today was a National Holiday here in Korea, which to me meant 2 things. One, I got to spend all day yesterday teaching my kids my patented 'THERE'S NO SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!!' dance, and 2, I didn't have to work today!!!!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

I had planned a day of nothing, just cleaning my filthy apartment, getting caught up on sleep and laundry, etc. I had plans to meet some of the girls at 1:00 which I was really looking forward to. Then during dinner Monday night I got a call from Tim, 'Hey, I'm in Yaksu...would it be OK if I crashed at your place tonight?' Of course. So he met us at dinner and we made plans to head out early for some hiking. So much for cleaning my place before seeing the girls. Oh well.

We had a great, long, mostly uphill hike all around Namsan, then walked through the city to get some snacks at the yummy Shinsegae Dept. Store food court in Namdaemun and then walked through Myeong-dong before heading home so I could shower up for the afternoon. Unfortunately life got in the way so I ended up not meeting them as I had to help out a friend who was in desperate need of some medicine. :(

After helping out my friend, I was a little bored and restless. I sent a text to Shelly about meeting for dinner, but no go. Fuck!! Now what??? As if on cue, I got a call from Graham. He and Tim were heading to Seodaemun Prison for the afternoon. Perfect! We wandered around Dongnimmun Park first, and then toured the prison grounds. It's well worth the trip (subway line 3 to Dongnimmun station, exit 5) and it's only 1500 won to tour the grounds. The park is a perfect place for a picnic...too bad we didn't plan ahead!!!

Here's some pics...I took way too many, and then (lucky for you guys but sad for me) my batteries died so unfortunately you won't get to see the execution room, the secret tunnel where the Japanese snuck the dead bodies out of the prison, and some of the punishment cells.

Tapgol Park

Went to Tapgol Park the other day with Joseph and Graham. Really beautiful place. Tapgol means Pagoda in Korean (or so I've been told) and the park had several quite lovely pagodas to chill out in. Tapgol also houses Korean National Treasure # 2 (#1 being Namdaemun's South Gate) and it was pretty cool to see it. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures so you'll have to take my word for it. Here's a few random shots of the park...all of the murals are depicting (what else???) resistance to the Japanese, and in the 3rd shot you can see Joseph and Graham getting all educated and stuff.

WORLD CUP FEVER!!
