Tribute
I've recently lost a personal hero of mine. His death was not a shock as he's had a long, very productive life. However, with his passing I feel an emptiness deep inside my soul (or should I say stomach) that may never be filled. Many of Momofuku Andu's loyal followers turned their backs on him after university, deciding that they could now justify spending more than 27 cents on a meal. But not I! It's a rare day that I don't scarf down at least 1 container of shin ramyeon. In fact, I'm eating some right now.
I believe The New York Times have put it best:
“Ramen noodles are a dish of effortless purity. Like the egg, or tea, they attain a state of grace through a marriage with nothing but hot water.”
I HEART K BOYS!!
Wednesday night I went to Hongdae to meet Kim. I heart Kim!! The first bar we went to had some promotion about drinking however many beers to get a free scarf, so we immediately set to it. After a few hours of hanging out with him, Mino showed up. I heart Mino!! As usual we stayed out too late and drank too much. Here's some pictures.
Over the past 17 hours a buddy of mine has sent me 4 text messages using the word 'commission.' That's a large word to repeatedly text.

12. Do you ever leave messages on people's answering machines?
yes. it can get depressing when they don't call back. also sometimes when they do. actually, i really wish korea would get up to speed with the voice mail thing. you know, for those times when RL doesn't answer my "i'm drunk on the subway...again" calls.

Protest
I'm not returning to a certain unnamed blog until the Christmas lights are gone. Kindly let me know when you've taken the fucking things down.
I had a crazy week, so this past weekend was spent doing alot of relaxing. Friday night I had an appt., and after that Jamey came over for a few drinks and to watch Borat. I made us the best hot chocolate EVER! Seriously. EVER!
Saturday I met up with Mino in Ichon (after a very crazy taxi ride) to check out the Louvre exhibit at The National Museum. I was a bit disappointed. In the exhibit, I mean, not Mino. :) It was pretty small, and really poorly lit. You'd have to be really into that style to appreciate the paintings. Of course, having both been to the real Louvre maybe our expectations were a little high.
After the exhibit Mino wanted to do some shopping so we headed over to Myeong-Dong, where he politely shook his head at everything I picked out for him and then bought a shirt that looks just like all the other shirts he already owns. He finally took my advice on a great jacket, so if you happen to see him in a navy blue jacket with tan trim be sure to tell him how hot he looks!! Finally he was done shopping so we had some yummy coconut shrimp and pizza.
Next we wandered through City Hall on our way to Kyobo book store so he could get his nerdy self a copy of The Economist. We checked out the holiday decorations, the skating rink, and the big robot statue (???) and seriously, I have never been so cold in my life!! But, coldness and crappy museum exhibit aside, it was a really lovely day and a great way to spend a Saturday.
I finally ditched him around 8 or so (just kidding, buddy!!) and headed over to The Artreon Theater in Sinchon to see the new James Bond film with Taru. Have you guys seen it??? Do you love it?? I thought the first chase scene was unbelievably awesome!! And the new Bond? I loooove him!!!!!!!
Sunday I slept late, then went to Santorini's for lunch with RL and Heidi. I don't like greek food, so I ate the olives and feta off a greek salad and gave the tomatoes away. Then it was a quick trip to a PC bang with Heidi (I LOVE YOU AND MY PRESENT SOOOO MUCH!!!) and then I sat my ass at Starbucks and read for hours until going over to Taru's to watch a few episodes of The Sopranos.
Pretty tame weekend for me, eh?? Don't worry...I just got off the phone with Shelly, and this coming weekend is going to be a fantastic time!!

Hey Look!! My Internet Works Again!!!
So I'm working on the post about Malaysia, but in the mean time here's some pics of me rocking my new hairstyle. Do you like it? Do you loooove it? Maybe I'll let RL style my hair all the time!! These pics are from our time in Penang.JES AND RL CONQUER MALAYSIA!!
Except for the monkeys and the jellyfish who completely kicked our asses. And the Petronas Towers. And Penang Hill. And the KL hash. OK, so maybe we didn't really conquer Malaysia, but we definitely conquered the menu at Cafe One!! This trip was definitely all about the food!! Here's some pics to get started, there'll be many, many more coming soon! These are the Petronas Towers, in Kuala Lumpur. Until a few weeks ago they were the tallest buildings in the world. There's a rumor that you can walk across the little skybridge but we wouldn't know if it were true or not since it was closed ON ALL 3 VISITS WE MADE THERE!!!! Stupid towers. I'm glad you're not the tallest buildings anymore! I like the 63 Building better anyway, so there!!! Also, I've been told that the Petronas Towers were actually designed and built by Koreans but I haven't done any fact checking so don't email me if that's not true.
