Deeper Shade Of Seoul

Just got an email from my buddy Min and it included this link. Wish I had known sooner...it would have been so awesome to go see it in person! I've always dreamed of doing one of these, though I'm not quite sure if I could handle the sacrifices it would take to get through the training. Plus, Brownie will probably do one anyday now, without training and drinking beer and jager shots the whole way and that sort of takes some of the thrill out of the accomplishment. Can someone who reads Korean slightly better than me (*Ahem* Mino...) check and see if it'll be on TV?

It's Official!!!

Today in Yellow Class Nicky and June announced their plans to get married. They timed their announcement perfectly to interupt the phonics lesson, which all the kids hate. Seriously, it was the cutest thing ever. Apparently, he kissed her on the last field trip!!! Scandalous!!

The reactions from the class were so hysterical. Most of the kids giggled and clapped. Sandy immediately announced that she and Leo (the only other boy in the class) were getting married too, but Leo wasn't having any of it so she pouted the remainder of the morning and then kicked him during playtime. Stella shook her head and said, "You wanna get married so you don't have to learn phonics!!!" She could be right, but I suppose people have gotten married for worse reasons...

What is your salad dressing of choice? Blue Cheese, but only if it's really good. If it's not good, then I go with balsamic vinagrette.

On average, what size tip do you leave at a restaurant? 20 percent if I'm in the states, nothing here!! And no, I'm not one of those foreigners who doesn't tip that everybody in the restaurant business hates...it's not the custom here!

What is your favorite dish to order in a Chinese restaurant? Orange Chicken with steamed rice. I also love veggie lo mein!

How long do you think you could last in a medium security prison? Physically or mentally? Physically I could probably hold my own for awhile since I'm pretty strong for a chick and if that fails I can run pretty fast. Mentally, being locked inside 4 walls would make me crazy in no time!!

I had such a great day today!! My friend picked me up and took me to his house to spend the afternoon with his family. His 6 year old daughter immediately redid my hair into some kind of crazy half ponytail thing and took off all my jewelry so she could wear it. Then she took me to her room to show me her closet, and later put on a little fashion show for me. His 2 year old son took one look at me and burst into tears...I was the first foreigner he had ever seen. He kept his distance from me for awhile, but by the time I left he was totally comfortable, shaking my hand and climbing on me. His wife cooked the yummiest lunch ever...I thought I would never stop eating!!

I can't even express how wonderful it felt to have some "family time," and I'm so totally grateful for the invitation and wonderful hospitality they showed me!!

Korean culture isn't always very accepting of outsiders, and as a foreigner I haven't always been treated well here. Unfortunately, lately there's been more negative than positive. Having me over for lunch was probably no big deal for my friend...just one more person hanging around on a typical Sunday afternoon. But for me it was one of the kindest gestures I've received since being here.

Other than that it's been a pretty relaxed day...did some laundry, got some stuff ready for my classes tomorrow, and made the best homemade spaghetti sauce to have ever been created by a non-Italian. Now I'm debating whether to throw in a movie or try to convince the boys downstairs to head over to Cafe SE for some milkshakes...
