Wow, he might have said some stupid things, but that's not how you treat someone. He had a family with children and grandchildren. How would you feel if someone said that about your father or gradfather. Better yet, will we be saying the same thing about Bill Clinton ("I did not have sex with that Woman") or Al Gore ("I invented the Internet") when they pass? Just some thoughts about the way we should treat each other.
Falwell's quote was published in yesterday's paper which added that he later apologized for making those comments. An apology doesn't make it right. And we all know that once said and later apologized only means those thoughts remained in Falwell's head.
I'm befuddled by your "had a family" comment and that he should be treated in a more fair and just way. Is that to say that the parents of a gay or lesbian child should feel that they unwittingly contributed to one of America's darkest moments, or that the people that have long championed for our individual rights and liberties actually assisted the terrorists? Posting on a true "liberal" blog may not be your most receptive audience. May I suggest that you support a blog that instead, fancies finger-pointing and pious behavior...umm...I don't know...maybe Ted Haggards blog.
He was wrong in what he said, but just because he made a mistake doesn't mean that you speak ill if the dead. Just a thought about treating people with respect and love. You know, the "golden rule?"
BTW We are no where near conservative. Have you read our blog. And don't dish it if you can't take it. Learn how to reason and argue.

Falwell was the poster boy for the American fascism movement when he entered politics. I was happy when Hitler died, and I'm happy this evil man bit the dust. Good riddance. Next up, Pat Robertson.
According to Boston Globe, the worst action of Falwell was his active and sustained support of apartheid in South Africa.
