Defying The Laws of Physics

The Mystery Spot is maybe the coolest thing EVER. No joke. Usually I have to use my superpowers to defy the laws of physics, but here all I had to do was show up! I've been dying to visit ever since I first heard of it so on Wednesday Gaylord and I hopped in Einstein and cruised our way up (or down, or East, or maybe West...you guys know me and directions!) to the beautiful redwood forests just outside of Santa Cruz. It was a fun ride with lots of singing and dancing and minimal bruising, and I got to see more big trees which I just can't get enough of. :-)
The Mystery Spot is about 150 feet in diameter and what makes it so cool is that within the spot THE LAWS OF PHYSICS DO NOT APPLY!!! Seriously!! You can't tell cause I'm a shitty photographer, but in the above picture everyone in the tour is leaning at about a 17 degree angle, because it's impossible to stand up straight!! That's Gay Gay in the hash T shirt, watching the guide demonstrate how gravity is all fucked up inside the spot. He would put a pool ball on a sloped piece of wood, let it go, and it would roll UPHILL!! I should also mention that Gay received an A+ in audience participation during the tour. It's one of the few times I've seen him excited about anything that wasn't on 2 wheels, even though now that we're back he's too cool to blog about it. Or share the 6 gazillion pictures and videos he took (hint, hint).

You can climb up a ladder just like it were steps. It was so awesome! And they had cement blocks that were totally level, but when you stood on them you got taller!! OK, I'm not explaining that very well, but Gaylord and I stood next to each other on them and I WAS TALLER THAN HIM!!! I don't think he liked it very much, but I could've stayed like that forever. :-)

Albino Squirrels Freak Me Out

Did you guys know that if you do an internet search for cripple porn one of the first things that comes up is a picture of albino squirrels humping? They're freaky little bastards! A bunch of stuff for The Special Olympics comes up, too. How gross is it to think about some big, sweaty dude jerking off to pics of Corky??? Grossness, indeed.

Muir, Part Deux

Wednesday morning I got my ass out of bed and went for a fairly long (long for me, anyway) run through my new neighborhood. After that, I jumped into Einstein and cruised over to Cafe Trieste in Sausalito to meet my buddy Matt for an early lunch before we headed over to Muir. Turns out that Cafe Trieste has amazing pizza. It also turns out that Cafe Trieste is NOT the same thing as the Sausalito Taco Shop, which is where I thought we were meeting. Oops.

We spent a few hours cruising through Muir Woods on a trail I hadn't been on yet. I forget the name of the trail, but I could easily find it again. My appreciation for Muir just grows and grows everytime I'm there.

After Muir we headed to our respective homes, showered up (well, he did anyway, I just stayed dirty), met again at my place where we hung out for a bit with my roommate Lucy, and then we went down to the Beach Chalet for some wings, garlic fries, and Presidio IPAs.

Muir Woods

While KBS was here, we took a cruise through Sausalito, stopped for a long brunch with too many mimosas and bloody mary's, and then headed over to Muir Woods. It was my first time there, and I loved it! I even obeyed the "quiet zone" signs and didn't say one word for 10 whole minutes!!

Muir Woods has quickly become my go to place when I'm feeling like I need to get out of the city, which means I've been spending a lot of time there recently.

The last pic is of me trying to hide from KBS. I didn't know until I saw the picture that I wasn't nearly as sneaky as I thought I was being! :)

So things here haven't gone exactly as I'd hoped they would, but I guess that's life and, really, what fun would life be if everything went according to plan? And, really, when has my life EVER gone according to plan anyway?? :-)

But (!!!!) it hasn't been all suck. KBS came to visit, which was awesome, because I looooove him, so we spent some time exploring the city a little, drinking, eating more Korean food, singing ballads at karoake...he hasn't sent me any pictures yet (hint, hint) but here's a few I took.

Korean Food With Tony

Went to Brothers Korean restaurant on Geary Street with my buddy Tony. I was soooo excited to discover that they had yummy chicken goodness (translated into English as "Chicken Casserole") on the menu, and ordered it right away. They served it much differently than in Korea when Joel and I would order it. It didn't even look like the same thing, though it tasted almost the same. It made me miss Joel terribly. I couldn't even eat the third leg (only Joel will get that...hahahahaha).

So we got the chicken stuff, the typical grilled meat, all the awesome side dishes, and paid a small fortune for what would have cost us about man won each in Korea. I tried to finish the meal off with some makolli, but they didn't have any. :-(

Did we go out after we finished dinner??? I can't remember...

These are some old photos from a walk on the beach we took one morning after breakfast. My new apartment is pretty close to this beach, so I've been riding my new road bike down there pretty often. My new apartment is also close to the Beach Chalet, which has yummy food and brews its own beers. Lately, my bike rides have been including a few Presidio IPAs as well. :)

Well, today I finally convinced Gaylord to take me to the range and "shoot some rounds".

So he finally woke up from being lazy and we put the guns in Einstein. He was rolling down the road thinking he was some kind of bad car cause he was packing. It was funny. So we got to the range and Gaylord loaded the .45 and the .9mm and he gave me some talking to about safety, the range and how to aim the gun and fire a shot. My first shot today was loud and surprising. He had to tap me and remind me to focus for just one second. I fired off with the .45 and this is what my target looked like. It was cool. Now I'm going to tell him to take me all the time till I can shoot like Angelina Jolie in her movies. :D

Well, here I am, and I've been working bunches this week...although the bar is going pretty slow at the moment. I keep hearing, wait till Football season starts! (but that is not for another 2 months or so) Not a good thing in this line of business. Gaylord is still charging me the 10 percent nominal fee...so I gotta makes me some money to pay off the pimp! hahahahaha j/k mom.

The weather has been better, and hotter. I think I am going to have my mountain bike shipped out to me, and then I can try and spank Gaylord on the trails, although he is super fast and strong and the most awesomest rider ever, so I doubt I will be able to do it. :(

We've gotten on a kick of cooking corned beef hash with eggs in the morning, and it is way cheaper than going to my favorite diner to buy it. Even though we still do that on occasion. Yesterday we bought out the whole corned beef hash stock at the Asian Supermarket.

Hmmm...let's see. What can I offer you guys as an update? I could post more Yosemite pics, but let's face it, if you've seen one tree you've pretty much seen them all. Which is to say that I'm feeling a bit too lazy right now to go to the trouble of uploading them.

I have purple hair now, but don't have any pictures to post.

I did my part for pride week by volunteering at the gay pride 10K...never in my life have I seen such fuss about what size Tshirts would fit the best. Let me just say that most of the boys who went with a size small should have opted for a medium or large!

I spent the 4th with an old friend from PA who now lives in San Jose. Jeffy and I had a wonderful time having some beers and catching up in the Castro. I forgot my ID, so we actually got booted out of 2 places, but it was still fun.

And really, that's about it.

Boring, I know. Hopefully there will be a fun post and some fun pics next week, when we have some visitors coming into town. :-)

Here's a bunch of pics from our first 10 minutes in Yosemite. Seriously, we took sooooo many pictures! It was my first time there and I loved it so much I was just constantly clicking away with the camera, until someone took it away from me. :)

I'll post photos of our campsite and the rest of the trip later. If you've never been to Yosemite, put it on your list of must-see places. It was really amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I'm gonna go back next week.

The ol' ball and chain is gone for the weekend...off to Reno for a bachelor party/hash/visit with his sister/get a long ride in before the Cal24 endurance run next weekend trip. I miss the grumpy bastard, and I'd have given anything to see him belt out Pat Benatar at karaoke last night, but the weekend came at a perfect time when we were both feeling like a few days away from each other would be a good thing. Edward is away this weekend at Brushwood, so Stephanie and I had a nice long chat where we caught up on everything and praised the awesomeness of being home alone every now and then.
I've mostly spent my time alone getting some of my grown up stuff in order (finally rolled over my old 401K!!), enjoying complete control over the TV, exploring Golden Gate Park a little more, searching for parking, and actually using my gym membership. An acquaintance told me about a festival on Haight tomorrow, so I'm gonna try to check that out during the day. I've been meaning to stop by that area to see Ricket at the tattoo place anyway, so hopefully he works on Sunday and I can get that out of the way. And did I mention that I've consumed my own weight in reduced-fat Cheeze Its???
Otherwise, not much new. I have some photos to post, but I gave my USB cord to Gaylord and I'm not sure where he put it and I don't feel like searching for it. There's a large park right down the street from us...I forget the name but we've driven by it 1,000 times. Think I'm gonna grab my new issue of Outside magazine and go find a cozy tree to sit under. Golden Gate Park

A few nights ago Gaylord and I went to see Prince Caspian, and I loved, loved, loved, loved, loved it. Seriously. I loved it! The trees were FANTASTIC!!! I actually cheered out loud at several parts, until Gaylord rolled his eyes and shushed me. I hadn't been shushed in public since the subways of Korea! The next day we went to Golden Gate Park, and I insisted (despite the eye rolls) that we pretend we were in Narnia. It was fun. I talked to all the Narnians, and found all sorts of cool stuff. Gaylord doesn't do much pretending, so he mostly put up with me and took lots of cool pictures, which I'm about to share with you. Shakespeare's Garden was my favorite spot. :)

Alright, here's a little more info for those of you who can't get enough of my day to day happenings: I'm still in San Francisco, eating Jes & Joel style pizza (greasy, pepperoni, with creamy caesar salad dressing, hot sauce, and grated cheese on top) waiting for Gaylord to text me back with directions to get his DVD player to obey my every command. Currently, my every command involves showing the film American Gangster. That's pretty much how I plan to spend my night, along with a few chapters of The Blind Assassin and maybe an online game (or 12) of mahjong.

Had a lovely conversation with Andy Scap today. I'm sure you'll all be glad to know that he's doing well and enjoying Mayfair. Mostly we discussed the fate of my dear Aprilia scooter, Kirby, who has also been enjoying Mayfair. Kirby lives on the left side of Andy's garage, along with 2 of my bicycles, a box of crap, and my climbing gear. It doesn't look like my lifepath (I made that word up...go with it) is going to take me back towards PA for anything more than a visit, so I need to decide to sell him or store him somewhere until I'm settled and ready to be reunited with him. To be honest, I should probably just sell him. The odds of him getting used to his full potential by me are pretty slim, and who knows where I'm gonna be, and it's not exactly the kind of item I can just throw in my backpack and take with me. But still, I don't feel fully ready to give him up yet. Luckily, Andy likes taking him out from time to time, so it's not an urgent matter.

Also chatted with mom and dad today (Brownie - for crying out loud CALL HOME! I'm sick of hearing about it!). My little brother Eben and his gf are gonna be in town visiting, so they're busy doing all the things parents do when their kids come back to visit.

And that's it. I wanted to post pics from Chinatown and Narnia (yes, we went to Narnia, it was AWESOME!) but they're all on Gay Gay's computer and I don't know where they are and he'll kill me if I go through his stuff looking for them.

I have some other news, but I'm holding out a bit...soon, I promise!!!

Navy Beach/Mono Lake

On our way to Reno we stopped to check out Navy Beach. You can tell by the pictures (taken by Gaylord) that it was made/inhabited by aliens. I tried to find some, but they're sneaky little bastards.

Actually, Navy Beach was used by the U.S. military back in the day for weapons testing, research, and top secret stuff. They stopped using it in 1962, mostly due to public safety and environmental concerns, but also because other nearby bases were expanded so it wasn't as useful as it had once been.

Hard to believe all those rocks were under water at some point. I'm actually a fan of global warming, since I hate the cold, but I bet Al Gore would shit himself if he saw it.

One of the many destinations on our recent road trip was the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I had never been there before, and I immediately fell madly in love with it. I'm working on going back for a 2 or 3 day backpacking trip. So far the itinerary looks like we'll be taking the South Kaibob Trail to the river and then spending the night camping at the South Angel Campground. I'm thinking about taking the South Angel Trail back to the top. It's a bit longer than just going back on the South Kaibob Trail, but only by a few miles so it should be OK. Gotta get my application for a permit in soon...I've heard the spots go quickly!!

Yesterday GLF and I played tourists and went and walked around the Embarcadero section of town. Actually, since I know next to nothing about this city that may be what they call that section of town or it might just be the name of the subway stop we got off, but anyway...It was awesome!! We had some yummy calamari and sweet potato fries at Pier 23, some Pyramid Apricot Ale (GLF had the more manly Anchor Steam Lager) at some other bar, and did lots and lots of walking and picture taking. We wandered through Pier 39, but we didn't ride the carousel. :( We got some amazing cheese and olives here, some awesome bread from The Acme Bread Company next door, and some unbelievable chocolate from this place. We took the 1940's style muni to Market Street, walked a bit more, and then came home and had a picnic (in our room - cause once the sun went down it got COLD and WINDY) with all our yummy goods.

After the picnic GLF got all hopped up on pain meds, since he had spent all day ignoring his doctor's orders to rest and wear his sling and not use his arm, and I watched The Fifth Element. I know I'm not the first to say it, but Holy Fuck Milla Jovovich (sp?) is FUCKING HOT!!!!

Today I'm going to pretend I'm a big girl and go to Berkeley ALL BY MYSELF!!! :)

15. What’s one trait you hate about yourself? Believe it or not, I actually used to be a pretty coordinated/graceful person. Then I had some pretty serious health issues and the coordination just never really came back. It takes me soooo much longer to do things that other people do super fast - like putting clothes on, tying my shoes, showering, getting into/out of vehicles. I walk slower than I used to. I trip and stumble often. I spill things a lot more than most people. Putting things together can be tricky. I usually don't mind so much when I'm alone...I've learned to manage my time differently, sometimes I find it humorous, and it was a nice - though forced - way to slow down my once very hectic pace of life. But it bothers other people, especially people who spend a lot of time with me. They get frustrated and yell at me, snap at me, shake their head, roll their eyes and give me that "Why can't you ever do anything right???" look. You'd think by now I'd be used to it, but it destroys me every time. I cry about their reactions when I'm alone, then tell myself I shouldn't take it personally, I won't get so upset next time...but then next time comes and I'm just as hurt. My second least favorite trait is my unusually high sensitivity level. If I wasn't so fucking sensitive I might not get so down when my friends make me feel like they're disappointed in me. We're in Reno, after a loooong drive and many stops including Roswell, Socorro, Vegas, and a zillion mining towns. I'd still be gambling if Gaylord hadn't forced me to "GET IN THE FUCKING TRUCK!!!" :)

The Grand Canyon has replaced Alaska as my favorite place in America.

We'll be in Reno for the next few days, and then back to SF. Tons of pics are coming, and many, many postcards are on the way.

I'm sure you guys have noticed from the pictures that I'm not exactly starving on this trip. Somewhere I have more pics of all the yummy food that has been going directly from my mouth to my ass (seriously, it's getting HUGE), but these were all I could find right now. The carcass looking thingy on the top is called cabrito and it was DELICIOUS. Even though I did tell Gaylord that the way they had it hanging up reminded me of Jesus, and I wasn't sure if that made me feel bad about eating it or if that made me want to eat more of it, and then I begged him not to translate that to his dad and the other guests at lunch. Anyway, if you ever have the chance to try cabrito, you definitely should.

After eating the carcass thingy, and all the organs that were once inside the carcass thingy, we went for a walk around part of Reynosa and I bought a cool bracelet which I may or may not decide to give to Stephanie.

These are from the evening when GLF's goddaughter insisted on reading me EVERY book she owned. She was awesome. I figured we'd look at a few pictures and she'd get bored but she totally knew all her letters and could sound out a bunch of the words, even with her younger sister distracting us by yelling, "DORA! DORA!" over and over. :) All that bookworm stuff helped us work up quite an appetite so we scarfed down some yummy food provided by her parents and then the grown ups talked about serious matters while she and I watched Casino Royale and dreamt about being James Bonds' girlfriend.

A few days ago Gaylord had some "grown up" errands to do and didn't want me bugging him the whole time, so he disguised his desire to get rid of me for a few hours by suggesting a shopping trip and dropping me off at the nearest mall. How To Make A Shank

First, you have to go to a shitty border town. The kind where nobody asks any questions when a white girl shows up in a machine shop and asks the boss to make her a shank. We chose Reynosa, Mexico, where GLF's dad just happens to have a machine shop.

It is very important to choose the perfect piece of scrap metal for your shank. I went with this rusty old saw blade, figuring if my prison shanking abilities were less than stellar I could at least hope my victim hadn't had a recent tetanus shot.

Next step: filing the piece of metal into a shank-like shape. I went with a double edge shank, being totally unaware there were different styles to choose from until GLF's dad politely explained them to me. :) I'm all about proper safety equipment, but Gaylord, being hecho en Mexico, was too cool for protective eye wear.

After playing in the shop for awhile, and one desperate escape attempt by yours truly (I only made it 3 blocks on my own before I was picked up, brought back, and very sternly told to NOT GO OUTSIDE BY MYSELF - it was like that time I got grounded for setting off my crazy neighbors car alarm so often that he finally called the police) we decided to leave the shank-making to the Mexicans and go get drunk. :)

After some margaritas and visits to a few of GLF's uncles - one of them, apparently the smarter one, refused to allow me to enter his bar. My reputation as a master shanker must have preceeded me!!! - we went back to pick up the finished product. As the first picture clearly demonstrates, proper shanking technique requires you to hold your shank in one hand, and your margarita in the other.

Then we had a fantastic BBQ at GLF's dad's house. Check out GLF's HOT sisters!!! I thought Brownie was the only hasher with a hot sister. :)

GLF got a little mouthy so I had to teach him what happens to Mexicans who can't keep their mouth shut.

Late last night, after drinking my own weight in vodka, we smuggled my shank across the border and now we're back in McAllen, Texas. Sadly, I have lost custody of my shank and GLF says I can only use it under direct supervision. :(

So...we skipped Corpus and drove straight to McAllen, TX. This is the town where little Gaylord grew up. I saw little Gaylord's school, and the house where little Gaylord lived, and the fields little Gaylord used to play in. And many, many pictures of little Gaylord (hahahahahaha!!). I got my ass kicked by a 5 year old at Go Fish, and I watched most of Horton Hears A Who, which is an awesome movie.

Today we will head to Mexico, where I will shank anyone who looks at me wrong, because (1) that's how you roll in Mexico, and (2) I don't want to lose my expert shanking skills after spending so much time at TXIH practicing them!

Thanks to Gaylord for updating my blog and posting all those pictures (your mom posts pictures). We finished recovering from TXIH by heading to The Woodlands for some awesome food (liquid crack, anyone?) and many, many margaritas. And Ass Gagger, E.S.P.N. and I got in some sneaky, ninja style red-headed slut shots. :)

We all crashed at Donnie the Retard and E.S.P.N.'s place, and like true hashers once we were invited we never left. :) The plan was breakfast and then hit the road but instead we've been lounging on the couch watching Team America and Old School.

Some more photos of Friday night. The band canceled at the last minute, despite having spent weeks prior bugging everyone on hashspace and with email to buy their crappy T-shirts. So there was no show or event on Friday night, but the Knuckledraggers had set up a very large structure, with a cover, and had a beer pong table, a 3-man table and also a Flip Cup table going, with music, sound system and disco lights. Everyone came here and they saved the night. Knuckledraggers are my heroes!!!!
During the evening, Donnie and Gaylord began what they like to call their "black ops missions"
As they put it, how could the organizer put a can of gel shaving cream into every gimme bag and not expect someone to come up with the idea of spraying people with it. Shheeeriously.
I like to call this picture "Gaylord's demise" I think he had the "Tour de Chug" shirt on for a few hours, and then he kept saddling up to the Shot Luge and doing all kinds of shots. Eventually he passed out, not without going down kicking and screaming. "Why are you making me take a nap?!? I could keep going!!" Hahahahahaha!! A few hours later he fell out of his tent (literally) and was right back at it.

Well, not only did I survive nearly 36 straight hours in the truck with GAYLORD (THE COOLEST HASHER IN THE WORLD) , we finally arrived to Austin, Tx late Thursday night and immediately began partying at Knaves' house. What started out as a few Knuckledraggers crashing there before the ride to TXIH turned into a pretty decent sized group of hashers, and before we knew it, we were drunk. :) I take ZERO responsibility for that, as Death By Dildo met me at the door with Jaeger shots.

Here are some photos. TXIH went off without much problems. Lots of mud the first day, and I've become quite adept at driving. For not having driven in the last 2 years, I put more miles under me in 36 hours than in 2 years in Korea. I even experienced that wonderful feeling of road rage!

oh yes....PHOTOS:Gaylord yelling at me to "Get in the fucking truck now!!!!" Cause my ADD took over, and I wouldn't get in the truck and wasted like 3. 6 minutes at this gas station somewhere in central California. Shhhhheeeshhhhh! One of my favorite places in the world happens to be Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, a mere 45 or so minute drive from my house in Allentown. When I lived there I took many, many sick days from my job to go hiking, biking, rafting, beer drinking, and hanging out there. It's also the town where my good buddy Charlie lives, and where the most fabulous Chris Cassidy grew up. Chris and I have hiked the Glen Onoko Falls Trail so many times I couldn't imagine doing it with anyone else. My favorite time to go there is in the winter, cause all the waterfalls are frozen and it just looks awesome and there are no other people around. It was the last thing Chris and I did together before I left for Korea. It was the first thing we did together when I finally made it back to PA, but this time he took the sick day. :)

After the hike we headed to Molly Maguire's Pub for some wings and beer. Yum. It was a good day.

Hmmm...Thanks to Andy for the little gift. Charming. I would say it's meant as a joke, but shortly before opening the email I realized that, starting early this morning when I woke up, tried to roll over, but instead bashed my head on the shelf next to the bed, and including just now, when I went down to the basement to do some laundry and bashed my forehead into the low ceiling, I have somehow managed to hit my head 17 (!!!) times today. That makes me special, indeed. :)

Otherwise, everything is good.

ON ON to TXIH!! We're gonna leave Wednesday morning, driving from San Fran to Austin. We'll spend Thursday night in Austin, and I guess we'll make it to wherever the hash is sometime Friday. KBS, Kit-Kat, and Gay Ho are gonna be in attendance as well, so there'll be a good showing of former S2H3ers!! We'll see if everyone who starts out on the road trip is gonna finish the road trip...After 2 years in Seoul with no license, I'm not sure if my driving or my navigating skills will be worse. Either way, I'm sure to be receiving lots of eye rolls. Hopefully GLF's stylish sunglasses we picked up in Bakersfield will help hide them from my view, since I tend to be a bit sensitive about that stuff. :)

Got my ticket from Portland (Chris) to Colorado Springs (Brownie). Can't wait. After Colorado Springs I'll be back in Texas. I'm looking forward to some girl time (ladies), some Heidi time (Heidi) and some decent live music (Ass Gagger)!!

I'm having a great time, but I miss Korea. I miss Joel. I miss always having things to do. I miss having friends around to do things with. I miss 3 a.m. phone calls and texts (never thought I'd say that!!!), Air Supply serenades, and bedtime stories. Not that I'm complaining, because I really am having a great time. It's just different and parts of it are a huge adjustment. I don't think I'll ever be able to cut my food with a knife again. :) Too bad there's no way to combine the best of both worlds, eh?

All is well, I'm no where near packed and ready to go, but it always works out and I'll be done by Wednesday when I fly out to California. Yes, sunny California, 'cause I'm done with the rain! :(

Met with some people today, signed papers until my hand cramped, paid ALOT of cash, and I'm no longer a fugitive. They made lots of jokes about how popular I'd be at Lewisburg Penitentiary, which is right up the street from Sunbury, but I didn't really find it too amusing.

Other than that, I haven't done too much. Was really good to see DNA, but sucked to have to see her under such circumstances. I also had a chance to see my cousins Dani, Derek, Niki, and David, whom I hadn't seen in years. We all went to Front Street for some beers after the memorial service and it was a nice time.

My high school prom date's mom came to the funeral, and made a huge point of telling me that he's not married and is coming back to the area to visit this weekend. We never dated, were always good friends and I wouldn't mind hanging out with him and catching up, but it might be a bit too soon to start planning the wedding. Fucking small towns. I've been here for 3 days and I could give you guys a total run down on every guy under 50 who's not married. Every time I decline to meet someone they give me a strange look, like, "What's wrong with you?" I stopped by Runner's Roost today for some trail runners and the salesguy was like, "I remember when you were a freshman in high school and you ran a 22:17 over there at Mifflinburg..." Man, this entire town needs a hobby!

Tonight I'll be hanging out with the other side of the family. I can't believe all my little cousins are old enough to drink legally!! God I'm getting old!!!

That's pretty much it. Lots of movies, lots of sleeping, lots of breakfast, and lots of bothering Andy, Chris, Steph, and GLF. I don't really expect my social life to pick up much until I get to Allentown, which should be Sunday or Monday. I have lots of pics to post...hopefully soon!

I'm home. 27 hours of flights and layovers. Ugh. And then 3 hours in the car from Philly to Sunbury. 3 hours in a car with my dad sort of felt like another 27. Almost didn't get out of Korea, as there was some problem with my visa and I had to sit in immigration FOREVER. They were threatening me with all kinds of fines, and being pretty nasty about it. I'm never in the mood for that kind of treatment, and especially at 6 a.m. so finally I was like, "Can you just tell me how much I need to pay to get the fuck out of this office and far away from you?" and then the dude was like, "Oh...it turns out you're exempt from the fines, you can go." ARGH! Made it to Tokyo and did some shopping, and then got hammered in a little bar with some dudes from L.A. and another dude from Long Island. Sobered up on the flight to Chicago just in time to deal with customs. Form after form, tons of questions...I was getting a bit nervous. Finally got out and had my first American beer.

And that's it. I'm home.

I'm bored.

Goodbye Korea - For Now, Anyway...

I'm in Tokyo right now, having snuck out of Yaksu in the dead of night, with my 2 trusty sherpas hauling my belongings down the hill for me. We decided it was only appropriate to leave The Yak in such a fashion - if I lived somewhere south of the Han I probably would've had a flight that departed at a decent hour.
Ⅰhave an extremely long layover in Tokyo, which is fine since it gives me time to search duty free for those Coach shoes DNA wants, and then I fly to Chicago for another long layover. I will finally get to Philadelphia late on March 2nd (America's March 2nd, not Korea's). My first stop is obviously Pennsylvania. I'll pretty much be getting off the plane and heading straight to my grandmother's viewing and funeral. Not exactly the family gathering I had imagined for my return home, but I am grateful that during such a difficult time my family went out of their way and prolonged their own grieving process so Icould attend the services. I'll spend the rest of my time in PA with family and friends I've been missing for far too long. New houses, new husbands, new wives, new babies...there's not one person from my PA life who hasn't been through enormous life changes, and I've missed them all. I'm really looking forward to catching up! I've missed everyone so much!!!
After I'm through freeloading in PA, I'll be heading off to California, to see someone I've been missing in a different way. We have tons of cool adventures planned, and then I'll take off for a bit to have my own adventures. I'm gonna spend the next few months as a homeless, unemployed, freeloading bum and I don't think I could be any more excited!

Friday morning was our graduation for the 7 year olds, who will begin Korean elementary school soon. *TEAR* they grow up so fast!! White class put on their little caps and gowns and marched across the stage for their diplomas, and of course at the end of the ceremony they sang their little hearts out, because that is what White class does. I love these kids. I've had an amazing year teaching them. I couldn't have been prouder if I had spawned them myself!!

This weekend I fell madly in love. With Teddy's apartment. I've been living in Hagwon housing for so long, I forgot there were homes with color and personality and space and decent furniture with some sort of design element to it. Teddy's place rocks! Teddy's party rocked! The only thing that could have made it better was if my life partner Joel had been able to make it. :)

Of course, after Teddy's was Bliss...

Sunday I watched an assload of movies and did some cleaning and alot of packing. Guess where I'll be in 2 weeks?!?!? Even better - guess where I'll be in % weeks?!?!? I'm sooooo excited! Anyway...Sunday night I met my buddy Gwansic at Yaksu Station and we went for some

Every so often Justin decides to go through entire classes pretending he has no arms. It never gets old for him...he laughs hysterically every time. So do I. I love, love, love this kid. Saturday night I went with GS to the Aviator Winter Ball. I did lots of smiling and hand-shaking and behaved like a grown up all night! I even pretended to pay attention during the speeches and awards ceremony! I was feeling mighty proud of myself! It was a fun night. Thanks again, GS!
